July 10 - Birdling Flat and Cricket Match!

After the morning off to catch up on things, we boarded the Gator Waka and headed to Birdling Flat. This beach is a great place to find gemstones - such as agate. It is a shingle beach with lots of collectable rocks. It was sunny and the students relaxed and search for gemstones.

The sounds of the beach (sorry folks - we will get this working when Internet is working better for us here).

OOOOh! All those agates

We then got to try a little cricket at the local domain. It was the Part Blacks versus the  Piwakawakas. After much back and forth and stupendous plays, the Part Blacks came out on top about 37 - 18. Good hits and defense of the wickets. It was fun to hear the "grunts" of people missing the ball. Big trip tomorrow - Kaikoura, and then if the weather holds out - back over to Greymouth to have another go at the Croesus Hike in fine weather. Good Night's Rest All! Dr. H and Meryl
